The National Mustang Association

The National Mustang Association (NMA) has a long history of working with extensively with the Bureau of Land Management Sulphur Springs Herd Management Area (HMA) as well as other HMA's. In a December, 1994 letter from Ron R. to Gale B. Ron wrote the following: "I recently attended a board meeting of the National Mustang Association. If you are interested in the Sulphur Spanish mustangs still in the wild, this is the organization to join. The NMA was organized in 1965, and is the only wild horse organization, which I know of, that actually puts their money where their mouth is. Though they are a very low profile group, they have done a great deal to help the BLM, with various projects, financially. They have a great interest in the Sulphur Herd Management Area, and have taken the horses under their wing. In the past, they have given great sums of meney inassisting with the Mountain Home seeding project, purchasing cattle and sheep grazing allotments so the areas can be left exclusively for the use of wild horses and wildlife, and assisting with spring and water developement for horses. During the meeting, they committed $3,000.00 for purchasing a water tank for the development of Sand Spring this coming summer" (also see news release). The organization was established in 1965 for the purpose of preserving and perpetuating the survival of the wild and free roaming "Mustang".
The NMA has a ranchland sanctuary that covers over 11 square miles of rangeland in Nevada where acres and acres of rolling hills and grassy slopes are available to the horses and all the other wildlife found there.
